Go ahead and call me a little slow on the uptake, but I have just come to the realization that almost everyone in Vancouver is a food blogger. Friends who never seemed all that much into food are blogging about their restaurant experiences. Friends who’ve never expressed an interest in writing or cooking are blogging about food. It’s quite wonderful, actually. Food is important, and definitely worthy of conversation, and it seems that we are filling the web with observations about every bite.
So today I wondered (while, by the way, eating pumpkin seed flax granola with homemade red-fleshed applesauce) whether this is truer for Vancouver than other cities. It would be interesting to unearth the statistics of food-bloggers per capita for different metropolitan areas. I bet we come out on top.
Which makes it all the more challenging to say something interesting, unusual, and unpredictable. Here goes: a post of random things I like, today.
capellini | the scent of cherry blossoms | walking to Commercial Drive for groceries | side stripe shrimp | black olive jam | halibut tacos | bees | the smell of laundry that’s line-dried in fresh air | Audrey Hepburn | sticky toffee pudding | fresh peas (mine are planted; can’t wait) | cherry jam (just one jar left in our pantry) | salty chocolate | chick peas | summer | gin | bicycles with wicker baskets | picnics with real glass stemware and cloth napkins | Arcade Fire | green garlic | pizza | fresh mint | cookbooks | dolmades made with gleaned grape leaves and the help of friends |
Thanks for listening.

yes. food blogging is all the rage;)
On another note: I have scads of photos with hanging laundry from around Tuscany (quite a few Sienna, and just snapped a cool one in Venice…). Random, but you know.
LOVE your list of things you like. Did it all just tumble into your brain or did you think on it for awhile??
Ciao ciao!
Hi Janelle,
I didn’t have to think about that list. You know that kitchen drawer full of clutter? The one you call the junk drawer? Well, that’s my brain; full of bits and pieces jumbled together.
European laundry shots sound interesting; great idea!
My new favourite thing is from Mix Bakery, and it’s their Caramelized Apple with Vanilla Bean and Orange jam. Wow, is it ever tasty on a toasted slice of crusty walnut bread. I’m off to the toaster right now.
Oh that’s naughty. You’re making me hungry and just before bedtime :)
