Send a BC Farmer to Italy

Imagine more than 6000 passionate and informed foodisans  gathering in Italy, birthplace of Slow Food. That’s what Terra Madre is. Every year, Slow Food delegates from all around the world meet in Turin to share ideas for a smarter, culturally richer, and more sustainable food system. Our own Slow Food Vancouver is raising funds to send a delegation of BC farmers, chefs and academics to Terra Madre 2010.

This year, the Documentary Film Festival DOXA will open with the film Terra Madre on Friday, May 7. Slow Food Vancouver, partnering with FarmFolk/City Folk, is hosting an opening reception Celabrazione (that’s Slow for “party”) as fundraiser for the Terra Madre Fund. Local businesses like Ethical Bean, Raincity Grill, Aphrodite’s, and R&B will ensure that guests get fabulous slow nibbles and sips. The film itself sounds like pure joy for anyone passionate about food. (If you can’t attend the real Terra Madre in Turin, seeing the film will surely be the next best thing.) Tickets are $35 for the party and the screening, with $3 from each helping to send that BC farmer to Italy. (Tickets for the film only are $15.) Magnifico!

Nice idea! Torino is a wonderful northern Italian city well known for it’s culinary cuisine!
I really like the idea of your article on Olive tree farming on pender Island. Who would have thought?!
